what exactly does 10 year parts and labor warranty typically mean. Does this mean all labor needed for 10 years in guarenteed? If no please explain. IF Yes, how much is the additional 9 years worth in a rough dollar amount.
(I only plan to stay in the house 2-4 years)

They could all have some differences to what is covered. Some installing companies could even offer their own extended coverage.
Also, you may "plan" to stay only a couple of years but things change.
A number of years ago we bought a mobile home and only "planned" to stay two years 'till it was paid off.
Got spoiled by not having house payments and stayed ten years.

amana extended warranties for 10/10 is 250 to 350 depending on equipment

does the extended warranty have to be purchased at the time of the furnace installation or can one pay the same price to have the warranty after the furnace is purchased. Or will the warranty then be more expensive?.

Typically customers run them into the ground till they dont work at all, then want maintenance done....Too late. It's like having Ford repair a seized enginge and they find the car has the original oil still in it. NOT COVERED DUE TO NEGLECT. If it's questionable if routine maintenance was performed, they may require you to produce documentation to that effect, which is only reasonable. 2-4 years...go for the cheaper one...
