I am trying to seam a loop pile carpet against the grain(the opposite of the carpet rows). I know it doesnt seam as nice as a seam with the carpet running the same direction but I have no choice. can anybody tell me how to cut and prepare the carpet edge for this application. Is the carpet cut on the back side with a straight edge, can a row cutter be used. any tips with this procedure would be appreciated!! -thank you Sean

On alot of berbers you can row cut them in the width. Some are harder than others. Bend the carpet and see if you can find a row.Make sure to seam seal the seams, or you will have big prolems.

You can fold the face and cut it with shears too.
Row cutting usually works.
I row cut full if it is tight and difficult, and go back and clean it up with my big shears or my old nap shears.

You can do the seam with the grain pull the carpet back and make it that way
instead of making the seam where it is now you'll get a better seam
and you need to find the row or the seam will fall apart
