i just had new vinyl double-hung windows installed and was wondering what folks here thought of my choice.
regency windows,low-e ,argon,double pane.
specs:solar heat gain=.28,u-factor=,34,visible=.46.
checked out the construction and such, and was happy with how it was made. just wondering.
anybody got any comments?
thanks

You did fine, and your next utility bill will prove it!

Visible lite transmittance is a bit lower than the windows I use, but that might be due to the argon. You are in a cold climate, and the argon will help. Where I'm at, we simply never get cold enough to have a need to include it. Adds about 10% to the cost of the window. Around here, it's a waste. Where you are at, it's a good investment.

daswede,

"we had winds today gusting to about 50 mph.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that you would certainly experience a much more comfortable enviornment in the house (bet this is the first times the curtains haven't moved when the wind was blowin' 50 MPH!!), and you probably have the thermostat set a couple of degrees lower (if you are heating already), or a couple of degrees higher if you're still cooling.

And have you noticed that the house is QUIETER???

Andy --

Not hard.

I've got this NFRC sticker that I snagged off of an EPI window with Low-E glass (no argon, of course), so I KNOW what their numbers are.

And I've got the utility bills from EONS ago to remind me that I was paying more dollars then (BEFRORE the 35% rate increases!!) for heating and cooling than I am now, ...

And I have PICTURES of the curtains flapping in the wind!!!

Hey, speaking of curtain flapping in the breeze.....

I put some windows in for this older lady in a condo.....I was up there the next spring putting some in for a neighbor and the older lady walks up and says " I have a problem with THOSE WINDOWS you put in......there is so much air coming in around one that the curtains move"

So I walk over and look at hers......two windows in the front...and the upper sash on one of them is open about 3/4"........and BEEN THAT WAY ALL WINTER apparently.......

Yep.....that WILL cause 'em to leak a little :)
