Cools great forquiet sometime then it just quits. Shut it off for awhile then it works again. Is there a cut out attached to evaporator or a thermostat that could be stuck so it runs all the time until it freezes up and then won't let any air go through the evaporator? Sticking expansion valve? Like I say cools well . In fact went to DesMoines the other day 160 miles ran fine all the way.

I had the same problem with my 1996 Ford Escort. Worked fine on a 200 mile trip, then was off-and-on for the next few weeks, then nothing. Had a person check, and the refrigerant level was fine, but he tapped on a relay located up by the firewall, and the unit came on. It stayed on while it was in his garage, but went off on the way home. I haven't replaced the relay yet, but I think that will take care of it.
