need to build a small counter top and side panel for a cabinet, both will be stained and polurethaned. not sure what kind of wood to use. the side will be about 35"x25" need 1/2" thick. the countertop will be 10"x 25". not sure what to use. needs to look very nice when complete.

Is there wood there already to try to match?

Maple makes a good countertop. So do cherry and mahogany.
