Two questions.

1- Are double glass windows really efficient?
2- Is against any code to put a vertical window in an horizontal position?

1. yes, if you're comparing one to single pane glass.
no, if you're comparing it to 6" of fiberglass

Everything being relative.

2. Probably not, you'd just be using some made to operate in one
position 90 degrees out of kilt.

My car is made to operate horizontally, but I don't think there
any law that says I can't turn it vertically and try to drive.

Guz,

#1 -- Like Andy said.

If you want a window in that spot, then make it a dual glazed item. Otherwise, just fill the hole in with fiberglass insulation.

#2 -- "...A vertical window in a horizontal position?"

If you are thinking of taking a sgl or dbl hung window and rotating it 90 degrees to make a horizontal slider out of it, THAT WON'T WORK!! The hardware won't support it! (Not to metion that the weep holes will be in the wrong places!!)

I think I know where you are going with this one -- NOT AN OPTION!!!
