I removed wallpaper from drywall and it peeled off a lot of the drywall paper. We tried to smooth out the feathered edges with joint compound and then sanded them. It looked smooth so we painted it with primer (Behr PVA) but now you can see the uneven surfaces. Can we apply joint compound over the primer to try to smooth out the surface? If not, what do we do now? Help!

yes you can apply mud on top of primer. It will have a tendency to bubble, though, and leave pinholes when dry you'll likely have to patch them before repriming

A lot of times you wont know what an area will look like without painting it. Light reflects off painted surfaces differently. Definitely touch up and re prime. Just like mudder said.
