I would like to build a custom A/B type switch. I had a set-up with an A/B and an A/B/C switch that allowed me to control the signal to my VCR and television. The A/B/C controlled the TV input allowing me to get the signal from VCR/CableBox/Wall - the A/B controlled the input to the VCR - CableBox/Wall. I would like to replace these switches and all of the cables with one switch.

I don't know if I have to be concerned with the electrical ratings of the switches or whether I need resistors. I have considered buying a kit to etch a circuit board, if necessary, but again don't know the electronic logic involved.

I would appreciate any help I can get.

I'm a bit confused on why you need an A/B switch at all.

Is your only input cable? Or do you have other input signals such as over the air, or satellite tv?

Give us some more info, - how is your cable routed?

There is, ultimately, only one input (cable service) but the VCR will have two (2) inputs (A/B) - the "raw" cable feed and a feed from the cable box (for scrambled broadcasts). The television will have three (3) inputs (A/B/C) - the "raw" cable feed, a feed from the cable box and a feed from the VCR.

I need to have the following abilities:
Tape a program thru the cable box while watching a different channel on the television (without going thru the box).
Watch a program thru the cable box while taping something on a different channel (without going thru the box).
Watch a tape from the VCR.
I have a layout on my website that might make this a little clearer - http://www.angelfire.com/nj/shore78/switching_diagram.jpg
