I want to make a table with a big metal barrel as the base. Any ideas what to use for the tabletop that will be EXTRA STURDY (it will be used by very roudy teenagers), but will look nice? Also, how would I attach it to the barrel? Maybe with L-brackets?
I thought about those laminated countertops you can buy pre-cut, but they're not round.
Thanks!

You may be able to buy a laminated round top from a restaurant supplier or supplier to the rental businesses.
L-brackets may work. You could cut an inset from plywood in the shape of the recess in the top of the barrel, the glue it to the underside of the top, and mount it by screwing through the top of the barrel into the inset.
You could cut a round shape from plywood and use it to make a top. You could laminate it, paint it, or stain it. If the top will extend beyond the lip of the barrel more than about eighteen inches, doubling the thickness might be a good idea in the teenager environment.
Hope this helps.
