I have an interior bedroom door (hollow/fake wood) that will not close. It is worse in the summer due to humidity. Do I need to take the door off the hinges and sand down the side and then restain the side? Do I sand the hinge side or the other side? How much leeway do I really have given that the door is hollow?

Thanks!
Sue

A common problem is loose hinge screws. Check to make sure they are seated properly. A hollow core door has 1 - 1.5 inches all the way around, with more where the lockset goes. Ordinarily, one sands or planes the lockset edge. If there is more than 1/8 inch to remove take it off of the hinge side and reseat the hinges. You won't easily be able to reposition the lockset.

Hope this helps.
