I am going to replace a patio door (slider now, and I want a french style) and several double hung windows with casements. All the windows in the housr now are Anderson, circa 1973, still in good condition. The double hungs are old tech though, very leaky in winter. Most of my other windows are casements, so I thougt I would just replace the double hungs with casements.

The only manufacturer that will make a window the size of the double hung openings is Caradco. Does anyone have any experience with these? I'm not looking to buy on price, I'd rather have quality. Thanks in advance for any information.

Replacing the slider with french doors is pretty straight forward.

The difficulty of changing your present casements to dbl hungs will depend on the WIDTH of your current windows. Very few, if any, mfgrs. make a dbl hung wider the 48". If your present windows have widths in the 4'-6" to 8'-0" range, you will either have to break the openings into smaller widths by adding posts, or buy packages that are mulled together (possibly a combination of picture and dbl hung units), or frame the openings narrower and use narrower windows, or forget the dbl hungs and go to XO sliders.

Not familiar with Cardaco

lefty,

Thanks for the info. I actually do not know the width of the double hungs off the top of my head. A friend who is a contractor is doing the work, and has made the recommendation of Caradco. I really don't think they are wider than 4 feet. It sounds like the depth is where I get into strange opening sizes going to a casement.

I was really looking to see if anyone knew anything about Caradco from a quality standpoint.
