I have a unit installed new in 1992. Some people have told me that I should have the coils cleaned about now. While I can ge the major service, the coil cleaing is a bit expensive, so what does everyone thing?

Hi:tbirdowner

I hope you have a sense of humor.

You asked "what does everyone think?" about having the A/C coils cleaned.

I asked everyone and the decision is unanimous. Get the coils cleaned. hahaha

It's worth the cost. The unit will run more efficiently and you may be amazed at what comes out.

Amen! :D

When I worked for a large, 1800 individual unit, retirement complex, our maintenance(stress the word maintenance) was year around. We cleaned the coils EVERY year in every unit. Maybe that is a little out of the ordinary, but we had very few breakdowns in the heat of the summer or the cold in the winter, when it would be critical.

What is the primary cause of problems? DIRT!
