my air conditioner sits outside, and is a Payne. At first, no air, no sound outside. Man said fan needs replacing, has lots of leaks and 0 antifreeze, and will be too expensive to find leaks, and system is old. He turned the button on the unit outside off. Need to get new one for $3800+.
When we turned button on, we hear sound but blows only hot air.
Does this mean we wont have heat this winter?
Can the fan on a Payne air conditioner be fixed?
Should I pay $85.00 hr to find leaks, and replace fan?
HELP!!!!!!

Whether you will have heat or not this winter depends on the type system you have. Is it a heat pump or a AC/Heat system. Do you know if it has a gas line running to it. If you do the heat is more than likely independent of the AC. A common air handler (fan) would be used. Try the heat now and check it. If you do get a new system, get at least 3 estimates from reputable contractors and get them in writing..

I do not know anything except our house is all electric. Also we switch from cool to heat with the thermostat.
We cannot tell if the heater is working because it is blowing hot air out any way.
I am praying that it can be fixed: 105 is not the coolest of weather.
Thank you,
cv

I am sitting enjoying the cold air. Got it fixed. Nothing major, just a leak that was fixed in 5 minutes, and 6lbs of Freon, and some kind of drier part (??? and some small thing to make the fan go faster. Anyway the pars and Freon cost $78.00 and one half hour labor.
Compared to $3800, this was a blessing.
Anyway, if I had not came to this board i would have been sold something that I did not need.
I wrote a letter to the company where the repairman worked.
Thank you, God Bless You, keep doing what you do so well!!!!
