When you folks build a deck what kind of load specs do you use, assuming no hot-tub, etc.?
I usually see 10 psf for dead load and 40 for live load -- a total of 50 psf... but everyone I talk to says they go 40 TOTAL?
Whats the scoop?

It depends on your local building code. Check with your local building official for all deck requirements and save yourself a lot of headaches down the road.

SillyMike,
Decks are usually designed at 40 psf and balconies are at 60 psf.
As Bungalow Jeff said, call your local Building Official to be sure that you will build this to current local requirements. Also a building permit is required.
Good Luck!
