My AC unit works just fine when it is running. As soon as the fan stops, it makes a continuous, loud sound like a clock ticking. Does anyone know what this could be and/or how to fix it?

One possibilty is to check to see how soon the compressor tries to kick back on after the compressor turns off. If it tries in less that 3 minutes, then, the compressor may be getting overloaded from trying to turn back on before the presure has equalized enough. Then the clicking you hear would be the internal circuit breaker tripping. Do not let it do this if this is the problem--turn off the unit. Otherwise the internal circuit breaker will wear out.
