Dear Experts:
I have a problem with a wooden floor I?m in the process of refinishing. The house has 3 bedrooms and a halway/stairs in hardwood planking. Last year, we stripped the first bedroom down to the wood with a floor pad sander and then put 3 coats of Minwax Polyurethane clear semi-gloss on it (light sanding between coats) We did not put a stain on it. A couple of months later we stripped the hallway and stairs down to the base wood with the floor pad sander and again without putting a stain on it we coated it with 3 coats of the same miniwax Everything matched.
This year, we stripped the other two bedrooms down to the wood using a belt sander. Without putting a stain on the wood floor, with put 3 coats of same miniwax on. The problem is that you can see a difference at the door way to both of the bedrooms from the hallway. In the door way of bedroom one there seems to be about a tsix inch strip that is lighter then the hallway and the newly refinished floor in that room. The Door way in room two has the same problem but not quit as noticable. We put another coat of the same miniwax, with the light sanding, of course. Now in the door way in bedroom one, the problem area (lighter in the room compared to the hallway) has been reduced to a two inch strip that halfway across broadens to four inches. Door way two?s still has the same problem but seems a little less noticible.
Any suggestions of what I can do to get the floors to match and eliminate the lightened area at the door way?
Do you think just coating the area that is lighter than the rest of the floor one more time might solve the problem?
Thanks
