I'm installing a 3/4 solid strip floor over 3/4 plywood over slab. I think the proper choice of cleat length is 1.75", correct?
2*(3/4 + 1/2*3/4) = 2*9/8 = 18/8 = 2.25"
My calc above assumes top of cleat will end up at midpoint of strip which is not quite correct, is it? I think the tongue is offset slightly. Also, I don't know if cleat length includes the head, which will be counter sunk. So this is why I derated to 1.75".

Most cleats and staples come in 1 1/2 and 2 in. If you use an 1 1/2 they will not come through the bottom of the 3/4 in plywood we generally use these for floors with radiant heat. In all other cases we use the 2 in.
