I had a debate with my wife about painting the bricks of the fireplace....as we have the wood burning fireplace in the family room....as my wife wanted to paint the bricks white....as I said no for serveral reasons....

So what is your verdict??? IF it can be painted, then what type of paint to be used to paint it???

1. Painting brick changes a low maintenance surface to a higher maintenance surface.
2. Latex paint will do the job. Make sure the brick is clean and use a good primer for masonry.
3. Painting brick is almost irreversible. You can just about never get all the paint out of the brick later on.
4. Proximity to the source of heat may be a problem.
Hope this helps.

It can be painted, use a product called Block Filler for the primer,If there red bricks put on 2 coats. Make sure their is no loose debris on brick. The heat shouldn't be a major problem, keeping it clean? uh maybe. Use interior paint.
