I'm finishing my basement including a small shop. I had some insulation left from a garge finish that I used on the walls and ceiling of the shop but the insulation has the paper vapor barrier. Should I slice up the paper a bit to mimimize the vapor barrier? I'm only insulating for sound reduction so wondered if I created a problem with the insulation I used. thanks

Removing the paper from the insulation is not that difficult or you could slash it. In basements when insulation is installed and the basement is going to be used for something like a work shop, the insulation cannot be exposed. Meaning to say you have to cover it with a fire proof material like sheet rock. You should check with your local building department about what the requirements are for utilizing the basement.

Thanks, yes I am finishing off with drywall. I just wanted to be sure that the paper vapor barrier on the insulation didn't create a problem.
