What would be the appropriate post spacing, beam size, and spans for a 3000 pound hot tub which is 84" X 73" in Altanta, GA.?

I calculate 75 PSF for the tub with people and static load. My deck design book only covers 50 PSF; 40# live and 10# static.

Would increasing the beam one dimensional size and reducing the joist spacing from 16" to 12" do it? The Lowe's sales person suggested doubling the joist. I thinking that the beams would be more in need of beefing up.

Thanks, Garry

GarryDL,

Do both!

It's alot of weight - ensure post footings are wide or all this above will be for nothing!

What did the building inspector have to say since you don't have a permit?

Good Luck!

Inspector does not say much. They are to overloaded to handle permits on new construction to bother with us no permit guys.
