 I have several skylights in my home. They are all double pane and 1/2 are gas filled and the other 1/2 are not. The wife wants me to apply a tint film to reduce the amount of light, glare, etc. I have been told that if I apply window tint film to the sky light that skylight window will crack because of the added heat deflection. This is more noticeable on the gas filled windows. This does not make any sense to me. Has anyone come accross this as well? Can not get a staright answer from manufacture either, suggested that I replace my skylights with thier newer model.

Strickly my opinion, but gas filled is a waste of money. (Gas is good for stopping cold air infiltration, but does NOTHING for heat loss!)
Since you and the wife are complaining about the amount of light and the glare, you have clear skylites. I would suggest that you replace the lites with opaque ones.
