When in the kitchen or dining room of our 40 yr home (purchased this past summer), the slightest noise that the kids make upstairs in their bedrooms seem unusually loud (than it should be?) and wonder if its normal to insulate between floors for sound when drywall is used? I think it's just novel to our ears because we've lived in a ranch for the prior 7 years and are unaccustomed to the banging around the kids do even when they aren't trying. My husband thinks its really loud and rattles the shelf in the kitchenand it's abnormally loud. Any ideas?

Yes insulation is an option, but probably a better one would be carpeting.
