I am reinstalling a stair runner (Oriental Bidjar about 0.5 inch thick) and am wondering if the recent instructions involving the use of tackless strips are appropriate on this carpet. The previous installer used only a stapler to attach the rug ober a felt pad. I'd like to avoid damaging the carpet as much as possible.
Also, would the use of a brass bar at the riser/tread interface be as satisfactory as the use of a tackless strip?

Depends what the backing of the carpet is, if it can be used with tackstrip.
The brass rods will help with the tackstrip issue, by hiding it.

Thanks for the response. I'm going to investigate the use of tackless strips for this runner.
I'll let you know what I finally use to install the rug.
