We have a 50 yr. old Hamer built house with hardwood floors throughout. We have one room that we are putting hardwood floors in. Under the original hardwood floors the subfloor consists of 1x6 pine boards nailed to the joists and on top of that is 3/8" lathe nailed in line with the joists. Our question is, was this done to seek level and do we need to level each row of lathe that is running on top of the joists? Also should we level joist to joist or just the length of the joist?
