I want to replace a section of subflooring, and wanted to get some advice on materials and how to attach it to the joists.
The joists are spaced 16 inches on center and I will be putting down a laminate finish floor. This floor will be on the ground floor over a crawl space (no vapor barrier in the crawl space yet).
I've read that I should glue it with construction adhesive and attach it with nails. And that I should leave an 1/8" expansion gap between sections of subfloor.
I'm not sure what thickness of plywood is necessary and what type of nails should be used to attach the subfloor.
Thanks!

You should check with your local building department to see what the code is for the thickness. If it's less than 3/4" (many are 5/8"), use 3/4" anyway. Glue and screw and, yes, leave the expansion gap.

Is there a particular type of screw that should be used to attach the subfloor?

Your local hardware store should carry appropriate screws. The length is determined by the panels and joists, but you're prob'ly lookin' at 2 1/2" - 3" length brass. Look at the labels for applications.
