I purchased a home built in 1968 and it has those horrible big picture windows in the front of the house (living room and kitchen). Imagine my surprise when I realized that all the caulking and glaze is falling out. Not just falling out, disentegrating! The wood frame is rotten and I am terrified the window is going to crash out into the yard! We want to replace them with 3 smaller windows but have no idea how. Can anyone help us??? Any websites or know how is greatly appreciated.

First, how big are the windows? (How side by how tall?) How close to the floor is the sill? What kind of siding is on the house?
Converting the picture windows to 2 or 3 smaller ones usually isn't that big of a chore, as long as you don't increase the size of the original opening.
You are basically adding one or two posts in the original opening to create 2 or 3 openings for the new windows, installing the new windows, then sealing things outside so you don't have leaks, then finishing the inside. The tricky part is dealing with the outside so that it "looks right" and so the it DOESN'T LEAK!!
