My A/C makes a banging noise when I turn it on.
I live in an apartment so I have a unit inside, (gas furnace) and the main unit on the roof.
Why is it making this noise and is it safe to run till my manager sends some one to fix it?

Could be anything. Is it just a bang once when you turn it on or is it continuous? Continuous might be something got into the fan throwing it off balance.

The banging noise happens for a few seconds as I turn it on.
It will stop then start up again for a few more seconds, while it it's running, but only for a few seconds.
Is it safe to run? It is so hot here where I live.

if the banging occurs when the fan starts, i would think it was coming from the duct itself. generally the duct work (if metal( is "crossbroken", this usually prevents this problem. how many times does it bang? this is when in cooling mode, correct?

I really don't count how many bangs, I just pay attention to how loud it is and how long it lasts.
I'm also praying it doesnt blow up my apartment, it's a scary noise!
