I have a raised floor that has 6 or 8 inch joists running 90 degrees on top of the original joists, it has a 3/4 ply subfloor. We plan on using 3/4 x 2 1/4 planks. Is it alright to run parallel to the raised joists? If not, is there any special preparation that would allow me to do it? One alternative I was thinking of is to add 1/2-3/4 plywood and use 3/8 engineered flooring[wood]. I will be nailing or stapling it with an air nailer. Thank you for any advice. Jim.

What is the joist spacing?

the problem with doing it like that is more asthetic than anything ,you will see the floor roll with the joists if installed in that manor, the presumption is that you be less likly to see the crowns in the joists if installed perpendicular to the joists, also installation wise it keeps the squeeking[rubbing of wood together]to a minimum as well as other problems that may arise:cool:

I have 2x10 on 16 centers with 2x6 across the top on 16 centers to raise the floor. With 2 layers of 3/4 inch plywood and 3/4 x 2-1/4 flooring, running parallel to the joists? I'm really looking for a good way to make this work . Thanks for the responses. Jim.
