I suspect whirlpool tubs are similiar to hot tubs; the rim cannot support the entire weight of a filled tub.
The bottom of the empty tub should contact the ground before the rim contacts the cabinet. For hot tubs there should be a half-inch or so of clearance between the rim and the cabinet.
For a whirlpool tub, the clearance is most likely zero, but the bottom of the whirlpool should still requre support.
