while removing wallpaper in my bathroom i noticed the face of the drywall was coming off . i used a wallpaper remover solution, but no help. i'm going to be replacing the removed wallpaper with an embossed paper and then painting it. what , if anything, do i need to do before installing the new paper. the area is only about 20" wide around the upper portion of the walls.

Use a drywall repair primer such as DrawTite or Zinsser's Gardz. Prime torn areas, then smooth out with joint compound. When patching is done, reprime with drywall repair primer. Then prime whole bath with a WALLCOVERING primer and hang away.
