We are building a vacation home on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake, Maryland. Met with one prospective builder and apparently the heating choices are a heat pump (never had one) with electric backup or propane. There is no natural gas in area.
The home will primarily be used 3 seasons, but there is possibility it could be used occasionally during the winter. Any thoughts on which would be better? More economical? Apparently propane is used quite a bit in the area and the 500 gallon tank is buried. Builder thought tank that size would last at least a season. He also said heat pump was cheaper but below 32 degrees would not function.
Any thoughts appreciated.

The heat pump will put out heat below 32o and work fine. As far as the heat pump over the Lp gas. Go to www.warmair.net for a fuel cost comparison. That will tell you what cost less to use. ;) ED
