I want to remove black simi-gloss from a wall and repaint
with a light mint green simi-gloss. I can't paint over the
black because it will darken the mint green. What can I do?

maybe apply several coats of high hide primer?

Yeah paint over the black with Kila2 (sp??) white primer...apply several coats....and then paint your new color.......viola!!!
