I am in the process of building a deck and am planning on using nothced stringers for the steps...I am unsure how to attach the stringer to the deck band...is there a product similar to a joist hanger that I can use in this situation? please advise

Cut the stringers out of a P.T. 2 X12 -- or use the precut ones. To attach them to the rim joist of the deck, use a Simpson hanger (LU26 or similar) -- AND put a couple of 3" screws thru the rim joist into the butt end of the stringer. DO NOT notch the 2 X 12 to fit fully into the hanger -- just let it rest on the front edge. If you (or the inspector) are REALLY picky, cut a little wedge to fill in the gap inside the hanger. (of the 150 or so stairs I have put up this way, NO inspector has ever called for the wedges!
