I have a gas furnace - forced air. When it calls for heat the gas burners ignite. Then when the right temparature is reached and the fan should turn on it justs hums. But I can take off the cover and give the fan houseing a little kick and the blower fan will start turning. Any ideas ?

Hello: lur948

If the fan motor needs a little manual push to start it rotating, the motors starter windings are defective and or the starters capacitor is defective.

Remove the motor and take it to any local electric motor repair shop listed in the telephone directory book. Electric motor repair shops can test the motor, repair or offer you a replacement to purchase.

An excellent source for original replacement parts is your local retail appliance parts store, the local heating dealers and agents retail part stores. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. The info will help to determine the possible problem causes.

Heating Agents & Appliance part stores stock replacement parts for almost every heater brand. The locations for the dealers, agents and retail part stores are listed in the phone book.

Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, the thermostat is turned down and the gas control valve is in the off postion before attempting any repairs. Always check for gas leaks whenever a repair includes any connection of a gas part, gas line or tubing or gas supply.

You can look and see what MFD and voltage the capacitor is that you have there for that motor. Get a new one and try it before you pull the whole thing out. Dont cost that much. ;) ED
