I once saw an idea to use brown paper to create a faux leather look on walls. Anyone heard of this? It was simply brown paper and varnish, I think!

you might have better luck posting this in the "Wallpaper" section. those moderators are wallpaper hangers & i'm sure they've heard of it, and probably have done it!

Some day you might want to take it down or change it. Someone will, anyway. So be sure that you first put up a wallpaper liner. That is a special, but inexpensive paper that you put up, usually horizontally. Otherwise, you will never ever get it stripped off! If you can't find any good instructions, go get you a piece of sheetrock and some liner, and experiment. That is how I tried out my faux painting techniques.

I do this kind of finish, and yes it looks real cool. If you want more specifics, just ask or email me.
I usually hang out in the "Wallpaper" threads.:D
I also have a couple pics of the results I'll try to post here.
