Just had a new heat pump installed...plus duct work...questions:

Shouldn't the installer installed a filter? He didnt'...

I already found a leak that would have soaked the filter (handler installed vertically in a basement) and the condensation pump doesn't run all the time and I see water in the line (clear plastic tube) but I am not sure if it should run all the time? Should they have installed a drip pan under the handler? Even in a basement with slab floor?

What other things should I be looking for?

Shouldn't the installer installed a filter?

What brand of equipment did you get?

Air filters are in diffrent areas.. You have a large single return vent? If so the filter may be behind the grill.

Filter maybe in the return trunk just before it gets into the air handler.. May have a cover on top or a cover on the side that you pull off..

Filters may be inside of the blower area in the air handler itself.

I already found a leak that would have soaked the filter

Where were the leaks? inside the unit itself? If so, shut if off!!!!!!!!! and call them at once to get back out to repair the problem before anything else gets runied.

handler installed vertically in a basement

We don' tknow what model you got.. so it might be installed wrong, or the "A" Coil maybe installed wrong?

condensation pump doesn't run all the time and I see water in the line

The pump don't run all the time.. Just when the tank gets full, and a float switch will turn on the pump to empty out the tank. The water in the water hose is normal.. There is a check valve on the pump.

Should they have installed a drip pan under the handler? Even in a basement with slab floor?

No need for it.. only for attic where water can damage the ceiling under the unit itself.

but you may want to check with your local codes.

You should call them back . Have them go over the whole set up here. They should show you how it all worksThats what you paid for .;) ED

Exaclty...

They are coming back out (with filters) tomorrow.

It's a Carrier 38YCC and matching handler. I will pay attention to what he does when he takes the cover off and looks at the A coil.

The heat doesn't seem to be working well though...what should the minimum temp be while the heat pump is running? The heat strip gets up to 98 degrees measured from the vent.

Thanks.

OK...he came out today...gave me 3 filters (installed one) and took a look at the water leak...it was actually one of the coils that was resting on the panel door. There is a peice of insulation between the panel door and coil. The coil was resting on the peice of insulation and the condensation from the coil was dripping past the drain pan. He insulated with some kind of rubber tape (looks like the wrap they used on the refrigerent line ) around the coil and looks like it should force the water to drain where it should. I will watch it closely for the next few days and see what happens.

Glad I paid a pro to do this...if I had a friend install this, it wouldn't have had this taken care of this quickly...plus I have a 5 year warranty on all parts!
