What is 'glaze' for? Can I add white paint to my brown paint to make it a lighter color. I'm trying to save some $$ and use my extra gallon of brown paint that I have.

Glaze is used for faux finishes. Its a thin, milky substance that is used in conjunction with other paint or colors to create a specific look.
You can add white paint to brown, if they are the same type, as in both latex or both oil.
Making a paint DARKER is not a problem. Making a paint LIGHTER takes a LOT of paint or tinting.
Good luck.

It will take a LOT of white paint to lighten the brown. One quart of brown to a gallon of white will not be much lighter than the original brown. One pint to one gallon should show a noticeable difference, though not a light as you think.
