I have removed the old mantel from the wood burning fireplace (bricks).....as I noticed that it was held down by some black epoxy (end, center, and end)....so i checked the wall and to my surprise that the wall area above the fireplace doesn't have studs in there.....
So when I am building a new mantel, so should I use the expanding anchors and drilled into the bricks and bolt down the mantel.......or use the combination of anchors and epoxy to hold/bolt down the mantel???
The old mantel was about 6 inches wide.....the open surface are of bricks is about 4.5 inches....as I am planning to make new mantel which would be either 8 to 10 inches wide.....
