10 years ago we had a red oak floor installed in our kitchen and hall. This fall we want to put hard wood floors in the rest of the rooms. All the rooms meet the existing floor at some point.
We intend to have the old floor refinished first.
My question is: Do you think we can match the floor and continue with red oak or should we go with a different wood completely? We currently have 2" boards and were wondering if going to 3" in the other rooms would accentuate the difference.

One other question. My daughter and son-in-law just had laminate installed in their home and were told to use just water to clean it. Does anyone know if there is anything else they could use?

Wiat to have the kitchen refinished untill you install the hardwood in the other areas. If you do the old wood will closely resemble the new wood. It may be a tad off but not to the naked eye.

2nd yes there are laminate cleaners available from Lowes or HD.

I use Pergo cleaner a couple of times a year. It comes from HD and is in a spray bottle. It costs a lot and you have to get down in the floor with old towels to do it right. For every day use, I use swiffer products.
