Hello, I am looking to install a bath fan in the basement and run the exhaust line, I think it is 3" out into an unused 6" duct that runs to the exterior of the house. The 6" duct was for an island stove, but is not being used and never was. Can I legally connect the 3" to the 6" and blow the air outside? Is there a limit on how many feet the fan air can travel before it reaches the outside?
I am doing this, because all of the closest exterior walls are brick, and I would really rather not go through the brick. I am not even sure how to do it.
Another option would be going into the garage around floor level, which is above the basement, and not brick. Is this legal?
All feedback is appreciated. Thanks

noake,
You may want to call the companies listed in the links and your local building inspector for the options you are questioning.
