I used a pine exterior siding that was very inexpensive - i have primed, and re-primed jsut the knots, but the knots are still coming through.
someone told me about a sealer you can use. what do you folks suggest?

A top quality primer - sealer such as Zinsser 123, in two coats should do it. Go over the knots with a coat. Then apply a full coat to everything. That should cover the knots. Wait according to the instructions on the can to be sure, then proceed to paint with a top-quality, exterior, latex paint.
Hope this helps.

I haven't found any water based primer that will effectively cover knots. I would use Zinsser's BIN shellac primer.
