In my basement, i'm constantly getting dust from the cinder block walls. In a closet before i bought the house, someone painted them a pink color i guess to match what they were doing and now i'm constantly sweeping up pink dust although the blocks are still a pink color. Is there some kind of paint i could put on there to maybe brighten up the room and seal it at the same time to eliminate the dust from the blocks? Thanks,
Joe

Drylock Masonry Sealer is a good first coat.

Even though you don't think moisture is getting into the basement, the dust is caused by excess moisture traveling thru the block. How are the gutters? Is the yard sloped away from the house?

Even the drylock will fail in a few years in this situation.

The dust cold be caused by using latex paint on cinderblock. The block is very alkaline and just eats latex paint.
you can test for moisture by taping a piece of plastic on the surface. Seal all 4 sides. After 24 hours remove the plastic and see if any moisture has colected underneath.
Drylock is resin in paint thinner and is often used to prevent masonry from dusting. As a moisture sealer it is a flop. The moisture will push it, or any surface coating, right off the wall.

Is there dust from all the cinder blocks or just what was painted? If its just in the closet that was painted and not from bare cinder blocks, then it probably is the paint that was used.

The dust is mixed with the paint. The reason I'm saying this is because on the other side of the basement I made a closet where there were just shelves. I didn't paint it but cleaned it up really good just to find the cinder dust there not long after. I ended up putting up cheap paneling over the blocks, which was a real pain to do but it looks ok i guess. nothing to brag about. I'd really like to find something that'll seal the blocks and then paint that'll hold up.
Thanks.

Go to a real paint store and tell them your problem. They should have both sealer and paint that will be compatible.
