The picture window in our bedroom leaks. On the inside of the window, there is a 1-2"-3/4" trim wooden trim which joins the main window trim. When it rains heavily (window faces north), water leaks between the 1/2"-3/4" trim and the main window trim and runs down the wall.

Called the contractor since windows are less than 2 years old. Told me (a) I left the screens open and (b) all windows leak. Yeah right.

When the contractor came out, he replaced the vinyl facing (at the bottom it was sloped towards the window instead of away) and recaulked.

I did notice that the vertical sides of the windows are not caulked. I also noticed when the vinyl facing was removed that there were holes where the old wood frame was (holes where the mortar reached the edge of the window).

This clown is coming out again on Monday to look at the window. Can anyone give me some insight on the leak so I can point this clown in the right direction? Thx.

Take a water hose and start hosing down the window, one area at a time until you get a leak inside......stop....the leak is there.

When the clown comes, enjoy the show.

BluenoteForever,

Maybe the "clown" just misspoke. Maybe what he MEANT to say was that you left the WINDOW open, and all SCREENS leak!!! (Now, let him explain how you are going to open a PICTURE window! (THAT will be a good one!!) And why would there be a screen on a picture window anyway???

If you spray with a hose, mask off the areas around the window to isolate the window itself. These windows wouldn't happen to be Kolbe & Kolbe would they?
