i live in a flat in an old converted house. i am on top floor. I want to be able to take out some of my fireplace without affecting those below. can i put a lintleacross the front build a false wall and use front space for shower or wardrobe. How can i find out how much extra space i can get.

This will require a permit and a professional to modify, if at all. Consult your local building official for more information on what they require.
