I have completed building my 20x16 wood deck, and I now have an existing 12x12 concrete patio off my screen door (wood deck just off patio). I was going to leave the concrete patio as is, but have decided to put wood on this also so it looks continious. Anyway, I do not want to take the concrete slab out - way too much work). So, going to lay the wood patio over this. I know that I cannot have the wood touching the concrete because of wood rot. I found some Simpson Strong Aluminum Standoff's (http://www.strongtie.com/products/connectors_list/APS.html), but have no clue how these will attach to the concrete. Is there another way or anyone have any other clues. Sometime down the line I would like to screen this in.

Thanks for the help!

Simpson calls out minimum 1/2 inch rebar embeded in the concrete. All the rebar is providing is lateral reistance, so inserting it in drilled holes would probably be adequate.

You're looking at the APS. My suggestion would be to flip the page (of the Simpson catalog) and look at the ABA, ABE or ABU stand offs. Any of these will keep the bottom of the post an inch off of the concrete, like the APS does, but will be much easier to anchor to an existing slab. Regardless of which one you choose, it'll be there 40 or 50 years from now, and the load rating is far beyond whatever you may put on the deck.
