I'm planning to build porch screens (About 3'-0" x 6'-6"0) and

using basic screen stock (1 1/16" x 1 3/4" wide) The basic

stock has a removable piece of "half round" trim that is

reattached to the rabbeted edge of the stock after the

screening is attached. Normally staples are used to attach

the screening to the rabbeted edge. I'm planning on

cutting a dado within the rabbeted edge and using vinyl

spline material to hold the screening rather than using

staples. Using a spline should speed up fabrication and

also permit my customer to more easily replace any torn

screen material. The "half round" material would be

reapplied after the screening has been attached to

the frame.

Which size of vinyl spline material and dado width would be

appropriate?

Would my proposed plan work for aluminum as well as

fibreglass screening?

Thanks.

There is a standard size spline for this application. I don't recall its dimensions. You could check at a supplier, such as: HD. I want to venture that it is 1/8".

I imagine so.

Hope this helps.
