Hi group, I am a contractor currently building my own home and would like to construct an exterior fireplace in my backyard. I am proficient at most trades but expert at none including masonry.
would this project be better given up to a professional or is it within the realm of an adequate block and brick layer with no fireplace building experience.
Can the unit be built as a simple "box with a hole", that is with no throat and damper system? How important is dimensions of the box and chiminey height for adequate draw?
If anyone has any suggestions or know of any websites that may help please let me know.

thanks, Kim

You might want to consider a stainless steel outdoor zero clearance fireplace. They tie-in great with todays stainless steel BBQ's. Plus, they are very easy to install.

If interested , vist www.lennoxhearthproducts.com. Look up the LSO43 (Oasis). You can download the product specifications.

If you are greater than 10ft away from the house, the minimum system ht. will only 7'8" from the base of the fireplace to the chimney cap. If less than 10 ft from the house, standard chimney rules apply which means you need a 15ft system or greater.
