I have an old house that we'd like to paint the bedroom of. There are plaster walls with deep but narrow cracks. What do I do to seal the cracks?

I usually use fiberglass mesh drywall tape, and float out the cracks with joint compound.

deep but narrow cracks
Cracks that are deep generally need to be repaired by taping and mudding.
Here is some information on repairing cracks.

After the repairs are complete, prime and paint.
Hope this helps.
