I have just bought a home and I have 2 windows that open just fine, unfortunatly it slides down and will not stay ajar. Can anyone help me with this please? I think it is a spring that needs to be replaced, but not sure and window replace centers say they will charge me 100 dollars for just coming out.

Describe the window.......I'm having a bit of trouble seeing it from here.........hehe......I must need new glasses.

it is a normal vertical window which opens fine, but will not stay open, it jsut slides back down slowly.

Ah, Moksha......how can I say this......There are dozens of DIFFERENT "normal vertical windows"........it sounds like a spring, but unless you can describe the window a LOT more, as to material made of ( wood, vinyl, metal ), what the side tracks look like, etc, then just plan on shelling out the 100 bucks. No one can give you a haircut over the internet :)
