Hello all,
The guys at Sherwin-Williams recommended a primer called White Mountain Never Peel for my wood pergola that has been painted once before, but wasn't primed beforehand. After power washing and scraping, it is about half bare wood and half old paint. Does anyone have any experience with this primer in this kind of situation? Is it better than two coats of alkyd primer? Thanks for your help.
Rick

I can't say anything about the Never Peel primer. With some bare wood and some painted surface, priming is an excellent idea after washing, before painting. I find that Zinsser 123 is an excellent primer in this setting. Be sure to consider two finish coats for maximum durability.
Hope this helps.

No, but the idea (acrylic stir-in bonder-sealer-primer adhesion system for latex) is not new.
E-B Emulsa-Bond, by the Flood Company http://www.floodco.com/ is readily available, almost everywhere.
Compare the ingredients and properties of Never Peel with E-B. E-B is an additive. Never Peel is a non-infringing product, (E-B is patented), because it's a homogeneous mixture.
Using either product (raw E-B, or Never Peel) try the test: Apply to a small area, wait 48 hours, apply masking tape, pressing hard; rip it off. If the paint doesn't peel off with the tape either product should work. If not scape &
sand, prime & paint.
Neither one is a cure-all. But, when adhesion additives work they work well.
The boys at Sherwin Williams (hi Tim) gave you direction. I think that you should have a choice.
